Listening With Collective
(Martyna Poznanska and Jacob Eriksen)
Listening With Collective is dedicated to exploring and forming sonic ways of becoming-with and alongside nonhuman others, or what we are terming ‘sound strategies for survival’. The collective was formed on the basis that in order to survive the present and evolving climate and ecological crises, we need to develop new strategies for existence that celebrate human entanglement with more-than-human others rather than perpetuate those which separate us from them. The collective consists of seven artists located around the globe, whose practices explore relations between the sonic and the more-than-human world. For The Listening Biennial, Listening With offers a participatory presentation inviting audiences to lend an ear through a series of listening strategies for becoming with nonhuman others.

Christina Ertl-Shirley
Christina Ertl-Shirley creates audio-visual narratives in the form of sound installations, radio plays, drawings, radio features, compositions and sound sculptures. She sees her works as transmedia explorations in which she immerses herself in microcosms.  The starting point of her research is travelling these niches through scientific, historical and subjective material. She draws on the suggestive possibilities of these elements and comments on them through her own acoustic, visual and haptic investigations, realising artistic narratives from them. Christina is currently working with deadwood as a habitat. She looks with curiosity at the feeding traces of beetles and other creatures in deadwood and sees them as possible scores. At the Listening Biennial, Christina wants to invite people to listen together to the possible narratives of deadwood inhabitants.

Manuela García Aldana
In Manuela García Aldana process-based work, listening is the principle and arises from the need to interact with her context and make it visible. Her questions and perspectives are shown with soundscapes, Dj sets, listening collective practices, radio shows and drawings. Currently her research and work focus on listening, sound, music, diaspora and identity with the will of unlearning and remembering other ways of inhabiting our collective life experience. Her contribution to the Listening Biennial will be a water-Dj set consisting of water sounds, reflections and music from the global south.
