HELLHÖREN

The upcoming group exhibition presents eight distinct works that explore the acoustic equivalent of clairvoyance (Hellsehen), offering different perspectives of perception in real and imaginary spaces, and providing illuminating insights into political, natural and physical conditions.

The exhibition will conclude with the book launch for the newly published ‘Errant Sound Reader’ (Errant Bodies Press), celebrating Errant Sound’s 15th anniversary, despite the ongoing uncertainty of its permanent location.

„Rudimental activity: post simulacra“
A sound excavation, while climbing a mountain, searching for a contemporary simulacra. Is this far away from us, do we need sacred spaces or spaces between life?

Andrei Cucu:
„Rodica, Val, Tina, Mircea, Sorin and Gǎbița“
A long time after I left, they were still there, in the pictures on the wall, in the chairs’ cushions, in the ceramic figurines, in the vitrines. They would never leave.

Nico Daleman:
„Abfall“
Abfall is an immersive sound installation that critically examines the politics of listening, sonic waste, and the unintended consequences of noise reduction technologies.
By amplifying the discarded, Abfall transforms fragments of traffic, wind, and urban soundscapes into digital artifacts that function as primary compositional elements. Extracted spectrograms and distorted digital remnants of removed noise create an abstract landscape that reveal the aesthetic and political dimensions of sonic erasure, exposing the sociopolitical dimensions of soundscapes shaped by climate (in)justice, class divides, and surveillance capitalism. As a result of challenging the preconceived biases embedded in machine listening algorithms, Abfall encourages an apostasy from the blind faith in technological progress and teleological narratives.

Janine Eisenächer:
 “MOVING through/with SOUND.”
A choreo-geography and relationscape. Pt. 1: Cycling (2022/2025)
MOVING through/with SOUND is a series of sound installations and performances that explores the diverse relationships between sound and movement on and with one’s own body in various environmental situations and forms of movement.
For Pt. 1: Cycling, Janine Eisenächer has processed the movement, material and environmental sounds recorded with a Zoom recorder attached to her leg while cycling through the Apulian mountain landscape of the Gargano into a composition (originally as a 4-channel sound installation, for the exhibition at Kunstpunkt as a headphone version). In this work, Eisenächer explores material and sonic know-how and the interactions between sound production (including the recording situation) and sound perception.

Alessandra Eramo:
„A/TEM“
A/TEM is an ongoing artistic project on the extended voice, where noise, whispering, tongue clicking, hissing, pre-verbal language and abstract drawing merge to explore the relationship between orality, writing and the physical presence of the voice – between the inside and the outside, like breath.

Georg Klein:
„The Sound before Silence – Souvenirs from North Korea“

North Korea is a musical country: music can be heard everywhere, whether at the huge monument to the Workers’ Party, in the (West Berlin) underground carriage, in the exorbitant school palace – or when the North Korean leader talks about the “exciting sound of nuclear missiles”.

The installation is an artistic travelogue from North Korea in times of global threats, centeed around a North Korean propaganda song that is reinterpreted by a South Korean gayageum player.

„TRACES—OF (chapter III)“
Investigations into the Reconstruction of an Electro-Acoustic Composition
A composition was played once to a group of “test persons”, who were then asked to interpret, contextualize, describe and imitate and the sound events. From these interviews, musical graphics and a radio play were developed to make the individual perspectives of the test persons comparable and to visualize the dramaturgies and narrative associations described.

Bea Targosz:
„Vocal Behaviour“
The project Vocal Behaviour began after the reading of Michał Libera’s essay Counter-Eavesdropping, and personal experiences of living in a block of flats, where sound, traveling through architectural divisions, was blurring the boundaries between the private and the common, between hearing and listening. The installation is dedicated to experiencing the human voice both as a timbre, and as a carrier of information. Thinking about contexts, regulations, and dependencies emerging in the social system, I focus on shifts in interpersonal communication — what evolves in silence, remains unspoken or unasked. A subtle sonic structure consists of unvoiced sounds and verbal messages. It includes classifications of terms such as „whisper” and „shout”, understood as timbres, social gestures, and conscious decisions. Spoken in Polish, the definitions are accompanied by audio snippets containing recognizable sounds of verbal communication. These information excerpts encourage attentive listening, eavesdropping, to capture messages amidst the fragmented timbre.
